While shielding my eyes away from the title of whichever episode you mentioned ;-) I have to say that just for reactions' sake, I try to avoid any pre-conceived notions of episodes so that it's easier for me to experience it fresh. I'll never know what my truly unspoiled reaction to "Blink" would have been, since it had been built up for me all these years. So, even though it's not a specific plot spoiler, I do try to avoid popular opinion on eps so that it's easier for me to do...this. Just my two cents! ;-)

2020-01-23 06:07:29 +0000 UTCand what is a spoiler anyway? Like how the BBC makes a new doctor a HUGE press event so we know a year in advance who the new doctor will be? Like most people who watched broad church didnt watch it to see the acting chops of the future doctor. Even in her broad church episode 1 the first time Jodie is on screen "future who" well i guess that answers the question of her knowing if Jodie is the doctor or not. But how could you not with the way it was plastered all over the net even a year before her season started. Or the fact that Jodie is the first time the doctor wasnt actually cast for the role Chibnall and Jodie are a package deal. First actor to get the role just by knowing someone. Now what would be great is a surprise regeneration sometime with no new actor announcement. But new doctors first episodes are always the highest rated gotta build that hype

2020-01-20 18:31:07 +0000 UTCI just finished your reaction and brilliant, I brought up earlier, how I believed that someone who had been through the thing I called the "Whedon Effect" of writing might have a different experience watching this show, then someone who had not and this is one of those episodes: "The Stand-alone, that advances the plot". .....Geronimo!!!!!!

2020-01-20 14:56:04 +0000 UTC"Space Pirates" and precisely the episode one would ask for after the epic scale of the previous two. The ability of this show, to take any moment in history (Ships/Pirates/Navel Officers/Aliens and Sirens in this one and President Nixon recording everything in the last one) and offer up a scientific reason for a supernatural cause with out dismissing the initial result . I liked the callback to the "Doctor Dances" when you find that physiology is not universal and even a high tech AI "Physician" has to understand what a healthy specimen is before they can just work on an illness/injury. I liked the drama between the Captain and his son, because it points to two simple question for the Captain "what makes a good man" and "can a man find redemption after failing in such a spectacular manner"? You have the dynamic of Amy, The Doctor and Rory = bringing the trope of the "Pirate film" and having Amy be the "Swashbuckler" and Rory being the "Damsel in Distress", not based on gender but on personality traits. You have the TARDIS just saying "I'm out". I did however have an issue with Amy's awful CPR, her giving up after Rory said she would not and how long Rory was down (too many thematic beats). However it was "Space Pirates" and the only thing better than Space Pirates would be Space Pirates and Cowboys (and Jayne's wonderful hat). I like again how even though it is just a "one off" episode unlike some previous series there is a connecting thread that affects/effects the plot "the lady in the hatch" the acknowledgement of Rory and his previous deaths, the trust that Rory has in Amy. This was a fun romp episode after we as a fandom were giving so much information in the previous episodes. I also enjoyed how it showed the Doctor as "not all knowing" and allowed you to go through as he went through his thought process. Again.... Space Pirates......brilliant!!!!!!
