Black Sails 4x09 "XXXVII" full reaction

"Seems to me what you'll really be teaching me is how to defeat you."

Y'all, this was supposed to be posted yesterday, but I kept having to re-export, and I still couldn't get a clean copy. This is the least glitchy one I could get out of 4 attempts. I know the past two Black Sails videos have been the same way, and I apologize for that - I've been trying to get help from Adobe and from peer help forums, but nobody has been able to resolve this problem. Grrr. With this show's reactions wrapping up this month, I just couldn't delay posting them or risk falling behind. (Each export/quality-check attempt takes two hours - eek!)

I know that the final episode will be an extended episode, and then I'll have my commentary, so you can expect the final reaction to be uploaded in two parts. Hopefully having two shorter videos rather than one long video will help this issue. Fingers crossed!

I wouldn't have recognized the katana myself, but I thought that because they couldn't find Billy's body that it was his sword they threw in instead. I'm pretty sure that this guy was the same pirate all the way through the show. What an ending for him!

I agree, episodes 9 and 10 were two of the best!

Oh, noes to being spoiled! I try to be super careful about spoilers to new viewers because it's a show that's so much better without them because of the huge plot twists and turns. Anyhow, episodes 9 and 10 are two of the best of the whole series. Luke Roberts did an amazing job as Rogers. There wasn't a weak link in this cast. Everyone was amazing. And poor Toby Stephens must have spent this entire episode sword fighting someone. Madi just light Rogers on fire and I loved it. The irony of Silver wanting to trade for her life is that she would HATE that decision. She's the first to say this is more important than any one person, even one that you love. Poor Jack and his luck. I think everyone laughed at the old man keeling over right as Jack is making his speech about how they're on the verge of greatness. I have a head canon that is not spoilers but purely just my own that the old man was "Mr. Flint" from the story our Flint told about his grandfather. Oh, Billy. Billy, Billy, Billy. Having read "Treasure Island" I knew some shit would go down to change him from season 1 Billy but I wasn't expecting such a dark path for him. As for Silver's past, the writers mentioned loving the idea of a man completely defined by his past -- Flint -- and one who refuses to even acknowledge his in Silver. RIP to the poor Walrus. I don't think she's coming back from this one.

I feel like I missed something from season1. I don't recall the scene exactly like if they were doing a burial at sea but I thought Flint threw the japanese guys katana over board implying that he had died. I dunno if they had another japanese guy or this guy wasn't going to stay with the show, hes certainly never been one of the main characters just someone who was there but I swore he died in season1 then oh hes back
