2020-02-20 07:26:31 +0000 UTCIt's really nice to go into these episodes without any preconceived notions! I admit this episode has its flaws, but overall I felt like it had some really solid ideas. It will be interesting for me to watch other people's reactions to this at some point. :-)

It isn't a very popular episode, so I'm glad you enjoyed it; I agree that the parts with Carys were both well written and well acted. It's the scenes with the Torchwood crew themselves where the writing is still jarring and crude. They certainly were aiming Torchwood from the start purely at an adult audience rather than the whole-family audience of Doctor Who, but it took a few episodes for the show to stop confusing "adult" with "adolescent" and thinking it could attain the former simply by throwing in copious sex and swearing. And don't worry about not liking Owen right now -- based on these first two episodes, no one could. :)
