Great points all around. The only thing I can say about the over-the-top acting was that maybe the actors were working extra-hard to sell this story, but the odds were against them. I'm glad that the reaction could bring something entertaining to it for you! LOL!

2020-03-05 06:05:27 +0000 UTCLOL - this is a great post! I think the over-the-top emoting from Ianto was the actor trying to 'sell' this story, so I have to give him props for that, but I don't think he quite succeeded. I will go with the temporary insanity angle! :-)
Fourth Wall Reactions
2020-03-05 05:59:50 +0000 UTCIn my opinion, this and episode 2 are some of the worst episodes of Torchwood. The ideas and concepts have potential to be good but the execution really falls apart. I genuinely can't find any good in this. I honestly think it's terrible. I think the Cyberwoman was poorly deigned. Instead of being scary, they went for the more sexualised approach which was the wrong direction to take. I thought the acting was way too dramatic and over the top. The situation got so overly ridiculous towards the end. It was at the point where I couldn't take it seriously anymore. Not to mention, we didn't get any build up with Ianto which makes it hard for me to have sympathy for him or Lisa. The Cyberwoman vs Pterodactyl is so bad that it's so funny. Owen kissing Gwen was bizarre and the writing was so poor. The only positive thing I can say about this episode is that it's always entertaining to watch people react to this mainly because of how bizarre and ridiculous it is. It was great to see your reaction and thoughts. Personally, I think this is the lowest point for Torchwood. Looking forward to seeing you watch the next episode though.

2020-02-26 05:37:36 +0000 UTCChalking the events of this episode up to temporary insanity is a good idea, not just for Gwen but for everyone else too... It has a well-deserved reputation as the "Spock's Brain" of Torchwood: a ludicrous premise, dialogue that's memorable for all the wrong reasons, and a climax that involves Lisa somehow performing a brain transplant -- on *herself*?! Then there's the gratuitous goriness, the soaringly over-the-top emoting from Ianto, the ridiculous Cyber-fetish outfit (complete with stack heels!), and the truly jaw-dropping sequence where we watch a Cyber-babe fighting with a CGI pterodactyl... all combining to reach a level of bizarreness that the show, thankfully, seldom reached again.
