This is not an episode that many people are able to rewatch, myself included. In fact, this is the one time I'm grateful that you fade the PIP image! Be reassured, though, that this is pretty much a one-off. I feel that in season 1 the writers were still trying to work out how to present Torchwood, so there's a bit of hit and miss with some stories. It certainly improves as it goes along, especially by season 2.

They are no longer associated with any of the other Torchwood branches and act independently (and often illegally as we've seen multiple times so far) with Jack as their leader. So, all they really have is each other, and what Ianto did is understood and forgiven as if he were a family member, even if his actions were wrong. I wouldn't worry if you don't enjoy some of these episodes, the best of Torchwood is still to come!
