SJA does slightly intersect with DW, but you are well past the stories in DW where that occurs. You’ll recognize them when you see them, I’m sure, but even those aren’t major in terms of continuity. There is another DW spin-off called Class. It only has one season, but don’t watch it until after series 8 of DW. SJA, though, you are safe to watch any time, I think.

I see from my watch order chart that I should start watching it after TW series 2, but I'm not sure if I should watch them simultaneously or pause Torchwood to react to the first series of SJA. I mean that from a continuity perspective; it may be that I don't have time to tackle both at once, but I don't know if it would ruin any timing/storytelling if I did.

2020-03-22 06:45:04 +0000 UTCWell, you said at the start that you wanted a focus on Tosh, and hey presto! That's what you got 🙂. I like this episode, it not only gives an insight into Tosh (and makes me like her even more), but shows how all the characters are in some way flawed and isolated. "No man is an island" the poet said, but here we have an archipelago of people, washed by different currents and not really connecting. Not even Gwen and Owen, who are really just selfishly indulging each their own wants, but not really connecting. But above it all is Jack, sort of in control, but still letting each one find their own way. You're not alone in your attitude to the Gwen-Owen thing, or Owen in particular. I think almost everyone who has watched this show has felt the same at this point, the great thing about this show, though, is that nothing is static, and there is a lot of plot and character development to come. What appear to be caricatures at the start are revealed to have multiple layers and depth as time goes on. I do still think you should also watch The Sarah Jane Adventures as well. A huge contrast in style, being aimed at a younger audience, but also great character development. There are some structural similarities - you have a team, led by SJS, combating alien threats on Earth - but with a very different tone and dynamic. And a lot of humour as well. It really is essential to complete the Whovian experience!
