Suggested Classic Doctor Who Episodes
Added 2021-06-11 03:36:33 +0000 UTCOkay, everybody, I finally compiled a list of Classic Who episodes that people have recommended to me over the past couple of years. Most of these were suggestions from YouTube comments (I kept a running tally on a spreadsheet - soooo nerdy!) and other specific suggestions via message or email. I'm sure some recs have fallen through the cracks, some of them aren't available on Britbox, and I may have missed suggestions that were made elsewhere.
These are not necessarily the only episodes I'll be reacting to - just ones that have been recommended to me. These suggestions may not include things I hope to see - each Doctor's first/last episode (if they are available!), the regeneration episodes, a little bit of each companion, each Master, and the iconic DW villains. So I may be asking you all to point those out to me as we go along season by season, so this list may expand a little. 😜

As for 'Power of the Daleks', I'd always watched recons/telesnaps over the years, but was pretty happy with the animated version that came out a few years ago. It was especially fun as it was released in the cinema (for one night only) and so it was nice to get together with local fans and watch it. If you haven't seen the animated version, I'd recommend it. It's not perfect, but I'm always easy for a Troughton story, so I really like it. <3 Here's one of the trailers for it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fv36UuCkUtg

2021-06-13 06:29:45 +0000 UTCI think 'State of Decay' falls through the cracks a lot, especially since it's pretty late in Tom Baker's run and it's pretty much a Hinchcliffe-era throwback with it's Gothic Horror, but I think Terrance Dicks did such a great job with that story, myself! (Plus, I'm always easy for vampires!) <3

2021-06-13 01:33:32 +0000 UTCOh okay. I didn’t remember if Power of the Daleks was telesnaps or animated. Yeah, I’m pretty sure those are on Britbox.

2021-06-12 20:16:01 +0000 UTCYes - The War Machines is a good choice. If Monica's intention is to watch at least one story from each season, then season 3 has a very limited choice due to an absolutely chronic overabundance of missing episodes :( War Machines is one of the few existing 'later Hartnell' stories.

2021-06-12 04:00:10 +0000 UTCVery good suggestions from everyone. Id second every suggestion made but Dalek Invasion of Earth 1st Doctor, and War Games, 2nd Doctor, even if it is a whole series is essential viewing. And Web of Fear even with the one reconstructed episode, it inroduces an iconic character for the first time and you dont want to miss that as well as just being a great tale. And the bad guy might prove familar. When it comes to the 7th doctor the wonderfully weird Ghostlight and Curse of Fenric are essentials too. City of Death from the 4th Doctor is also essential viewing and was penned by the late great Douglas Adams and his full of his wit and ideas. Horror of Fang Rock is one I love for its atmosphere too. I'd also throw 1st Doctor story the Chase in there too, its not perhaps the greatest but after youve seen a few episodes with Barbera and Ian as the companions, the first human companions, its worth watching I feel. So glad you are doing this, after Chibnal era Who it will be so good to get back to well written, character driven, bursting with ideas Who I can say good things about :)
