Excellent story. A huge standout. Easily one of the best SJA stories. I love the fact that Sarah Jane, Rani and Clyde each get their own respective stories and all three could have easily been their own individual stories. I love how they all intertwine. This such a great time travel story. Clyde's story segment is very energetic and fast paced. There's also a lot of tension here since Clyde is facing Nazis who could easily kill him but I love how he called them out for their bigotry and racism. He had a good rapport with George too. To give a bit of context on the object that Clyde had to seek, the Nazi Solider describes it as "Thor's Hammer" which is referred to as Mjölnir (fearsome weapon wielded by Thor. The God of Thunder in Norse mythology). Its image formed part of the Swastika emblem adopted by Hitler. I'm glad you didn't see the twist with the teacher coming. I had the exact same reaction when I first saw this live too. It was such a surprise to me too. I love how Clyde deceived the Nazis by making them think his phone was a bomb. Very clever. I knew'd you recognise another Game of Thrones actor in SJA. They pop up frequently. Even the actress who played Older Rani in the Mad Woman in The Attic episode also showed up in GoT (according to her IDMB). I seriously have to watch that show someday. Rani's segment is definitely the most emotional out of all the three. The story and reality about Lady Jane Grey is still heart breaking in both reality and the fictional adaptions of these events in media like this. I remember learning very briefly about it in school but it wasn't until later on where I saw this episode and then decided to do further research on it. I loved the immediate bond that Rani had with Lady Jane. Because they're near the same age, it made sense for them to instantly connect especially when it came to their own lives and interests. I also found it interesting how they portrayed a scenario on Lady Jane's death occurring through a different manner (by Matilda's hand) and how it could possibly change the course of history in a different way. But it adds an even more tragic layer to Jane's story with her death possibly being fixed in time. I love the historical sad music piece that plays during Rani's scenes with Jane and the goodbye between both of them is really emotional. Their friendship is short lived but beautiful. If this episode had focused solely on Rani's segment then there's no doubt Rani would try to save her even though she knows better as she demonstrated here. It always gets me emotional when Rani reassures her that she will be remembered and when Jane calls her an angel, the feels always keep rushing for me. It's so sad. The term "Lady Rani" was also followed through in this episode as Gavin declared her as a lady in the previous episode which is nice foreshadowing for this story. Another thing worth mentioning about Rani and Clyde is about how their race is addressed by other characters which adds an element of tension and danger of them travelling through time. I like how they also both challenge the racism they experience through both Matilda and the Nazis. Lady Jane referring to Lord Dudley as an "ass" is funny too. First time that swearing and derogatory terms are used in SJA. All this material makes it feel even more adult in tone. Sarah Jane's story has a great sense of mystery with an interesting twist about echos of the future emitting through the past rather than it being a Ghost or past figure. Emily is essentially like a young Sarah Jane and I absolutely love how Sarah Jane acts like a mentor and almost temporary motherly figure towards her. There's also feels of tragedy here with Emily mentioning her mother's death and the children from the future potentially burning to death in a fire due to a troublesome babysitter. Very unsettling stuff. But I love how they connected Emily's fear with the children which allowed her to save them as she's from the past. I absolutely loved that. I also found it adorable that Emily tried to stop Sarah Jane from leaving because she wanted to learn more from her. That part is always adorable to me even though it leads to a dilemma. But thankfully it wraps up and intertwines marvellously with the Newspaper coming into play which allows both Emily and Angela to save the day. Angela's reaction when Rani tells her that is so adorable. I also loved Sarah Jane's reaction when Angela tells her that Emily led a great life. It was also great to see Clyde and Rani look up on what happened to George and Lady Jane in retrospect. Such a great feeling to know that George and Emily lived great lives but its a bit of a bittersweet feeling when Rani reads Lady Jane's letter to Catherine but it's such a perfect way to wrap up the story. A cracking episode. I absolutely love it. I'm glad it gave you more of a fix on Lady Jane. Very nice to hear that you were invested with her. Looking forward to your reaction to the Series 4 finale. :)
