In the intro, when I referred to Deke as an anomaly, I didn't mean the kind of anomalies they're experiencing with the rift; I just meant in terms of him being out of his time. Just some clarification, since the term "anomaly" is getting used a lot! ;-)

With Fitz specifically, like it or not, the Framework has absolutely affected his personality going forward. Even at the start of this season Fitz has shown how incredibly different he is because of the Framework. The Fitz we knew before would have never drawn Hunters gun from his hip and threaten to shoot Enoch in the head when they first met.

2021-08-17 06:29:24 +0000 UTCI think the main reason a lot of viewers struggle to accept the dr as part of fitz is also because they TRULY forget about the consequences of his injury just because it looked like by the end of season 2/beginning of 3 he was back to normal. It’s a miracle fitz was able to go back to being the brilliant engineer he was. His brain had no oxygen for minutes. No amount of therapy for all of their trauma can repair the BRAIN DAMAGE he sustained. Such a delicate part of the body, and the stress he’s constantly under as the big brain of SHIELD for all of these seasons is what helped him crack. The framework, although super psychologically damaging for everyone probably, was just the cherry on top of sending his brain to the edge. Simmons mentioned before the full framework arc that his dad was around til he was like 10 or so, but was constantly telling him he’s worthless and stupid, which is probably why the super smart academy fitz we see in season 1 with Jemma couldn’t connect with anyone but her. Then ward betrayal, entire shield to hydra betrayal, brain injury, the love of his life being sent to another planet and coming back in love with a random astronaut after the thought of her being dead this whole time weighing on his shoulders, Daisy leaving after season 3 and more friends dying like trip and Lincoln, the new shield being different and the original team split up, finding friendship in Radcliffe like a father figure only to have him go corrupt with the darkhold and then boom framework and now time travel end of the world scenario that basically only he and the team can fix. And deadly anomalies constantly coming to try and kill them. Psychic split on an already fragile brain? Oh yeah. It’s hard to see and accept when at his core he’s still like the same old sweet fitz, but his personality and choices have gotten darker ever since he found out hydra was in shield and ward was hydra. Ex: we all loved to see it, but pre-betrayed fitz would have never turned off wards oxygen whenever they captured him. Season 2 his injury was so prevalent but I think a big catalyst to his dark persona shining through is Simmons going to Maveth. Innocent fitz can’t get her back, but fitz tricking gang members into giving him info and looking for clues and risking EVERYTHING to get her back? That was SO much for his barely healing brain to handle and I think it sped up his hardened personality in these later seasons. Ian played Fitz’s complex character so well. Fantastic writing as always. They always bring everything back and don’t randomly hit you with a new reason for a sudden change or action. It sucks because we love sweet fitz but it makes complete sense why him of all people would turn out like this.
