Classic Doctor Who 2x01 "Planet of Giants" eps 1-2 full reaction

"Oh, my dear Barbara, was I rude to you just now? If so, I'm so sorry. I always forget the niceties under pressure."

Having dealt with both an elderly cat and mice (or rats?) in our house over last winter, our cat certainly never even attacked or chased the rodent(s). Some friends were like 'Get a cat' (to combat the situation) and we were like 'We have one already. But she's just 18 and can't be bothered.' Luckily, Pest Control were able to eventually get rid of the issue and she was able to spend her last few months (she died in Spring) in peace rodent-free, but it was funny in retrospect -- she just REALLY couldn't care less about the rodent(s). In fact, it/they probably could've come right up to her and she would've ignored it -- LOL!

Fun story this, and inteteresting to compare how early Who tackled the social subject of enviromentalism in a story with more recent less successful attempts. Note how even the bad guys have actual motivations for what they do which make sense, one is just out to make huge sums of money, and the scientest believes his invention will end starvation, they might be in the wrong but at least we are given proper motivations for them. As mentioned above by Llotd B this was a possible inspiration for the US series Land of the Giants, not in concept (they were base don novels I believe) but in showing it could be done, a trickle down effect still ongoing today of technology in affordability - in the 50's even these effects were the province of cinema not televiosn, by the mid to late 60's the larger tv companies such as BBC and the US networks could afford to put on such spectacle. As usual however Who was doing it on a shoestring and mainly just an abundance of creativity and energy.
