I just realized that the version of the first episode you watched is missing the scene with the Beatles! Originally, Vicki gets to choose a time for the “”time TV” and opts for 1965, and they tune it to The Beatles playing Ticket to Ride from a studio performance on the BBC. Vicki goes all squealing fan girl, and explains how back in the 25th century she’d visited The Beatles Museum in Liverpool (puzzled expressions from Ian and Barbara😀), but she hadn’t realized they played “classical music”. I think it was the only surviving clip from that particular performance, but I dare say it’s been cut due to copyright. They had originally planned to get the Fab Four to appear in person on the show, but that fell through (vetoed by Brian Epstein I believe).

But I won't speculate too much until I see the whole arc. :-) I wish I had a time machine - then I would have all the time I need to watch every single episode! I do intend on doing that someday, and maybe I can circle back to react to more eps in the future.

Whilst in one way it is reflective of the true popularity of the Daleks in the 60's its also a shame you havet seen this Doctor and companions in broader circumsances than dealing with Daleks. I'm also not a huge fan of the opening of this episode, the tv time viewer is a fun idea, but its use to cram in the 'teach the kids some history' bit of the original Who remit is actually very clumsy and feels shoved in there to get it out the way, its also overlong. Or to look at it another way the Aztecs story is a sophisticated, thoughtful, intelligent well written way to appraoch that remit resulting in a great story, and this opening is a shallow, cheap and tacky way to meet that remit and get it out the way in comparison. Once things get going though its an engaging enough tale. I always found it interesting Daleks got time travel this early on. You'd think they'd be a lot more irresponsible with it.
