Just a reminder - please try to keep comments about the current episode & anything prior. I already know too much about these 2 series, so please no further hints about upcoming episodes. All opinions are welcome, whether you loved an ep or hated it with every fiber of your being 😜 but please try to keep it to the current episode and/or previous ones. I really appreciate it, thanks!! 🙏 XOXO

There are some disparate elements that make this one difficult for me to enjoy as a whole. I'll start with a positive but mirror with more of a negative to balance my over view so it doesn't feel like a pile on. There are some moments that I would describe as Very Doctor which I liked enormously. But on balance there were a few instances which felt they came off as patronising at times, which is ok. But when I think it was meant to be to nurturing that they were going for. I'm not sure that worked for me. I Loved 50% of the cinematography with those beautifully fantastic wide shots. But actually really hated the other half of extreme close up from every angle they could think of. Plus the all over the place shaky camera work. Neither of which I felt did absolutely anything for the story at all. This unfortunately became a massive disconnect for me in that regard. Which makes it harder to get lost in the story for this one. There were some great characters moments, but not enough of them came from the new companions for me personally. I do love Graham, Bradley's experience shines through. But Yaz and Ryan aren't hitting it out of the park for me atm. It Is Only episode 2... But! Comparatively speaking, I'd been fully on board with each new addition by this point. So, more of a slower sell, which is fine. I had just been used to seeing characters pop off the screen at me. This story just did zero for me. I can't find a possitive here. I think nearly every Sci-Fi show I've seen has done a space race. It's just too pastiche for DW. What I might have been fun, reflectively speaking. Perhaps what could have been interesting to do here was to have the search for the TARDIS stretched out over half of the series. Taking them to different places and on new adventures. Tease that reveal for all its worth. Not that I really appreciate this particular design at that much. Again I think some of that is down to the way it is shot. The whole production feels over worked for me. Sorry but style very much over substance for my eyes. It's not like every single story has been a gem, I do acknowledge that salient fact. But during those episodes I could enjoy the characters, dialogue and be more immersed in the cinematography so to be swept along. Too many of these elements I just find subpar. Not just for DW but for a TV show in general. Which for me subtracts too much from the overall experience. I know there were others in this series that I enjoyed far more. So I hope to be way more possitive.

2021-04-29 15:29:58 +0000 UTCThis is a pretty mediocre episode for me. The highlight for me is the Tardis reveal. I liked your reaction to the new set up and opening titles. These openings title are definitely one of the best we've had for Modern Who. I love the visuals for the Vortex and theme kinda harkens back to the Classic feel. I agree with you that it's definitely an improvement from the Capaldi opening title music. Cinematography is great in this episode and I like the fact that we're off world but other than that, this episode is pretty average. Not a lot to say about this one as it's basically a quest to find the Tardis. I do think there was missed potential in making the race competition more fun and engaging. I think it would have been cool if we had more alien characters as well as making the competition more dangerous with the issue of the deadly water and flesh eating creatures. I feel there was a lot of untapped potential there.
