Best one of this series so far. Arguably that bar has been lowered quite a bit by the previous 7. But I find most of this episode fairly enjoyable, however there's nothing overly special about it either. Alan Cumming and Siobhan Finneran are marvelous and I did find myself appreciating this Doctor a little more. Still on the whole quite disappointed with the development of the fam at this stage of the series.

They are showrunners - Moffat stated his main job was to keep constistency of characters and themes across stories, he often worked in character moments to be inserted into other peoples episodes that added to or furthered series character development or plot points. RTD was well known for heavily rewritting other peoples scrpts, with the exception of Moffats who he trusted enough, though for example I suspect RTD was heavily involved in the creation of Captain Jack despite that being a Moffat penned episode. Like the manager of a football team the showrunner is ulitmately responsible. They make the choice of actors, set the tone, narrative direction, character development and maintaining consistancy across a series- all areas in which Chibnal Who fails miserably. And unlike previous NuWho showrunners he also writes and cowrites more than half of all the episodes in this series. More than any previous showrunner this series is his. And Chibnal created a US style writers room for this for the first time, so how did they manage not to have consistent characters, even the Doctor is all over the place, or consistent plot and character development across the piece (or any character develpoment at all for that matter)? They also cut the series down to just 10 episodes, there should be no filler in such a series, but they all are.
