2020-08-15 01:10:24 +0000 UTCIn Japanese it's a pun on Eren's name. If you listen to what he says it sounds very close to Eren Jaeger. So they had to try and put together an English pun that would fit but it seems a little out of place. I guess it works better with the natural pun.

2020-08-14 02:14:47 +0000 UTCFR Jean is like Erwin exactly in the way you describe and people should recognize! Armin has a lot of Erwin qualities that get recognized but not so much Jean'. Like you said in OP, Armin chokes, where as Jean hasn't hesitated since Trost. And I really agree with you when you said that Armin deserves a lot of credit for realizing he was ill prepared to lead in that situation and delegating to the most qualified. A lot of people give Armin shit for asking Jean for help, but what makes a great player is knowing when to shoot and knowing when to pass.

2020-08-14 02:03:53 +0000 UTCYeah you're absolutely right The shift to command to Jean was a good move on Armin part but I do think that that just shows that Armin cannot handle being under pressure and I think that's a good contrast between him and Erwin. Jean can sacrifice that part of his humanity he'll hate himself for it and have trouble dealing with it later on but he'll make the decision if it means that most can live if some will die then he'll make that call as to where Armin will not he'll always think of the solution to try to save everyone's lives but in the process that can cost everyone their lives instead of making a quick decisive action in the heat of the moment like Jean

2020-08-14 01:16:07 +0000 UTCI always thought the shift of command to Jean was to show how Jean was a better tactical, on the fly thinker, where as Armin's genius comes from plans, ones he needs time to think through. I member in s1, Jean actually does sacrifice the lives of some nonamers and uses their deaths as an opportunity for the rest of his squad to make it to safety and to finish the mission. After that Macro attributes leadership qualities to Jean sayin that he was able to make quick, hard choices that resulted in the survival of many lives. In this epi, I feel like it was a moment where Jean got to show off a little of his Erwin qualities as well

I mean they are both intelligent characters but Armin doesn't have the heart or steel nerves to send his comrades let alone his friends to their deaths in order for the mission to succeed. I mean like you said the episode shows the parallel between the two characters but unlike Erwin Armin freezes under pressure and passes the burden of responsibility on the Jean. They have many similarities but they also have very glaring differences.

It was a play on words. "Eren's house is eavesdropping" = "Eren's houses eave is dropping". Still a terrible joke and Sasha did the world a favor when she hit Connie lol.
