I too, thought that after witnessing murder of her entire village, the girl would feel that her sin of stealing was the cause of it all. But just like in the book of job, she interprets horrendous actions taken by evil people to mean that the entire Christian theology is true. That God, heaven and hell, does exist, and feels elated about her family being in a better place now. The priest has been in search for meaning of love, and here is one example of love: the red haired girl feeling unconditional love for her God. It is unconditional because she does not ask for anything in return from God, not even that she is loved back. Her entire village is slaughtered and that's that.
