Unlike ordinary citizens, in the eyes of federal soldiers who are directly associated with the protagonists, they seem like monsters who come to the battlefield and are obsessed with destroying Legions without any reason to fight.

2022-08-09 00:02:10 +0000 UTCSo at this point in the show, Lena's status is up in the air - no one knows if she's dead or alive. However, due to the Legion being in the Republic's capital, Shin & friends have automatically assumed Lena is no longer alive. This is going to hit Shin incredibly hard and is where his mental health is going to take a serious decline. We're starting to see it now - he's spacing out & being reckless on missions, willing to throw his life away because he believes he has nothing else to live for. Lena was the one person he thought would outlive him and now she is gone and that's destroying him mentally. He has a lot of survivor's guilt that he's been holding back. It never really affected him before because he believed he'd die at some point when they got sent out for the special recon mission. Now he's managed to survive what should have been unsurvivable, and he's hitting his mental breaking point.

The happenings of the events to come in the upcoming episodes too, probably. It’s not so much as hate, but more logical to send the 86. They’re the best and most experience, so there’s a higher chance of them succeeding the mission, even if it is suicidal. Also understandable as to why some would hate them/fear them, as they had a chance to live a normal life but chose to go back to the battlefield because of ‘pride’. A pretty toxic trait of theirs unfortunately, as they despise those that pity them. And whilst again it is a suicide mission, they’re not just being sent to die. They’ve got Federacy of Giad backing them up, as well as two other countries, so the odds are already better compared to their chances in the Republic. And with Shin and the ‘vision’ he had, it’s more in his head, reminiscing of what others have said in the past, from good to bad. Such as when he ‘heard’ Lena’s voice, it points to his right ear. It’s to represent his train of thought at the time. Lastly, with the ‘.5’ episodes, they’re just special episodes for when production was going pretty awry and were having two week breaks, so you can skip them.
