The way I read Serie saying about Lernen "in the end, that boy didn't sense the fluctuations of my mana, either." -- It means that the mana we saw from Serie is the "reduced form" of her mana. It's her hiding it down to THAT level. Those fluctuations only occur when someone is hiding their true mana. Frieren's reduced her mana 10x or however much and because she's practiced for centuries, it creates only the quickest of fluctuations when hidden. Lernen managed to spot one of those. Lernen has observed Serie his whole discipleship, and he never spotted the fluctuations in her mana. But the fact that those fluctuations also exist in Serie's mana at THAT stage means her real mana levels probably reach a half a mile in diameter. When Fern spots it, she's awestruck because she knows that it's current form is Serie's reduced form, akin to Frieren's reduced form.
