The tone shift in this show has to be up there as one of my favorites. The way it went from silly and fun to straight up torture makes you appreciate the first half even more

Before her d-mail she was the one who introduced the city to the culture of moe. Akihabara, the city Steins Gate is set in, is the heart of otaku culture. Where all the anime, manga, gaming and cosplay shops and events can be found. Faris' d-mail resulted in a city where all that is now gone.
