Your Tamale story remind me a funny experience. I was working in foreign country. My foreigner coworker brought me to try Peruvian cuisine. I was so excited and order whatever other coworker was ordering. They ordered a dish called Arroz Chaufa de Pollo. With my limited spanish, I know it is some sort of chicken. But when the dish came, I finally realized Chaufa = 炒飯. So it is just 祕魯雞炒飯. And I googled that it is a Chinese-Peruvian dish.
