I respect that. For me, it's a song for straight Black men who still think it's cool to smear queer folk, and need to learn that it's not helping the culture. As an ordinary, cis, queer Black man, I got a love and hate relationship with Hip-Hop, as the musical tricks and lyrical word play is great, but the toxic masculinity can go. I appreciate the song for what it is, as one of those "address the issue" songs that make people think "may I should see x people as human and understand why they do what they do, instead of attacking and scapegoating them." (What a concept, right?) lol...Like one of those "let me call my cousin and apologize, let them know I'm going to do better" type sentiments. I cringed as well, when I heard the f-slurs, simplified language and deadnaming (which highlights hurtful behaviors people double down on because they refuse to do better), but that's the culture...The culture that needs to change, and embrace the queer folk to progress forward. I mean, where would a Tupac Shakur be without a James Baldwin in decades past who addressed a lot of the same subject matter, or a Langston Hughes who laid the foundation with his poetry? And that's just gay Black men. Don't get me started on the trans folks who helped really set things off in stone wall, or half the things that helped push the Black community's movements and artistic expresssion (such as "Soul Train" or the genre Rock 'n' Roll) forward....all the way up to Black Lives Matter. I've said too much now, but there it is. What the hell can I say? Nothing really. My perspective isn't yours--so much respect and thanks for sharing it, because it counts.

As a trans nonbinary person, I was honestly chill with it until we got to deadnaming the cousin (idk how she feels about it, but it is 🫣 for me) and the second/third/fourth? round of F-slurs. Then I realized it wasn’t for me. Ah, well, what do?
