Me and my wife watched it today and it was a waste of time tbh. Which is sad because the setup and premise has a lot of potential. But the movie is entirely incoherent and if it had a central underlying theme it eluded me completely.

Rakshas/Asura in Indian mythology are the counter to the Devas/God - However, they are not pure evil. They are meant to represent the many vices. So Ravana the Demon, who is the main antagonist in Ramayana and fights Lord Rama - is a learned scholar, virtuoso musician, and ardent devotee of Lord Shiva - His downfall is largely his ego. So the Indian mythical demons have more layers and doesn't translate directly to Demon in the western sense.
