So very true. We have inherited this hatred and mistrust from the past and it really has no place in the present era. But trust our politicians and media to breed this toxic atmosphere around us for votes.

2020-09-13 07:44:58 +0000 UTCReally interesting is the fact that anywhere outside India and Pakistan, Indians and Pakistanis are so often such good friends. For example, I am in Australia. Every brown group of friends has atleast one Pakistani, if not more. In the end, we all get along because its all the same stuff. The food, the music, the movies. We all enjoy the same things.

There is so much friendship and love between Indians and Pakistanis here that we often forget we are from different countries. When an Indian describes his neighbourhood in Delhi I feel as if he's describing the streets of Lahore. Similarly when my indian friend shows me pics of an event happening back in India, it feels like I am watching an event happening in Pakistan. I see so many Pakistanis at Indian restaurants here and vice versa. I even have arguments with my friends about Bollywood movies and stars and cricket players as if we are from the same country. It's only when we go back to our home countries and see the people being constantly bombarded with the notion of 'enemy state' through media, that we begin to see differences in mental attitudes. But bring those people out of the media controlled environment and put them with each other in a neutral zone, they bond like long lost relatives.
