Hai Rama Yeh Kya Hua - Rangeela - Urmila & Jackie Shroff REACTION!!

I loooooooove Urmila😍😍😍

NAJATE BOUTACHDAT

The cultural context you are missing regarding the current song is that it is based on Hindustani classical music. Classical music in India is generally an invocation to god. It is considered holy. Rahman has made it horny in this song, which was conceptually amazing to everyone at that time. He keeps doing this---he keeps using Indian classical music and instruments playfully, sometimes in very horny songs (Humma humma being another example, where he used Shehnai). The Aishwarya song in Jeans you just reacted to is based on Carnatic classical music. It's a sort of romantic overture from the girl to the boy. Again, not what Carnatic music was originally intended for.

Priyanka

The female singer is so accurate with Urmila's voice.. As a kid I used to think that's urmila singing :)

You should react to the song Rukkamani Rukkamani from Roja, AR Rahman's debut movie. If you think this song was surprising, he did THAT incredible song in 1992. Also, you forgot to ask Amit Trivedi what his favourite AR Rahman album was. He would have replied Thiruda Thiruda (1993). He has mentioned it several times. You should react to the songs of this film starting with Thee thee and Konjum Nilavu. That album is possibly AR Rahman's greatest yet. He scored it in the second year of his film career! Absolutely mindboggling stuff/

Priyanka

Yes, also Yaaro Sun Lo Zara and Mangta Hai Kya. The latter probably has the best dancing Aamir has ever done in a film. He more than keeps pace with Urmila, which is no mean feat.

Priyanka

In honour of her, you should react to Humma Humma from Bombay. She only gives backing vocals to the song, but her contribution is paramount to its sensuality. Also, Evano Oruvan from Alai Payuthey. It's a lament of separation and Swarnalatha was perfect for the song. Both songs composed by AR Rahman.

Priyanka

Not the heroine? Heard about Zeenat Aman, Mandakini, Sonam, Padmini Kohlapuri etc. Even Madhuri and Sridevi have done a lot of sensual stuff. The difference is this was more artistic.

Mohamed Suhail

True, but for the most part it wasn't mainstream family films that had any scandal in them, and more often than not, any display of sexuality was not from the female protagonist. In fact, more often than not, it was a "vamp". We've all seen films where a girl would be a free spirit, wearing "western" clothes, right until she fell in love with the hero - at which point she'd switch to ethnic clothes. Rangeela was one of the first films where it was the heroine's sexuality that was in focus.

Aamir stopped attending award ceremonies after this movie

Kedar fulambrikar

you should react to another hit song from the same movie Tanha Tanha https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WL8kz8t7pmg

Incidentally you posted this on the death anniversary of the female singer of this song - Swarnalatha Maa’m. She passed way too soon. She has heard her in the prabhudeva song “Mukkala muqabla “ as well. She used to sing a lot for AR Rahman.

I agree with you partly. I grew up in the 90s and the songs were pretty controversial for that particular time period. But if you watch older movies from the 70s and 80s in Bollywood, there are far more scandalous scenes! The reason for this song being so controversial was that the 90s was a more conservative decade in Bollywood than the two previous ones.

Mohamed Suhail

You commented that this song must have been the sexual awakening of a lot of people, and that's certainly true. I was a teenager then, and yes, this song was certainly talked about a lot. But it goes beyond that. It was part of - possibly even kick-started - the sexual awakening of Bollywood itself, coming off an era where mainstream cinema always cut away from anything sexual, symbolising it literally with birds and bees. Seriously, you'd have a couple's faces draw in for a kiss, and suddenly cut to two flowers "kissing". Open portrayals of sensuality were rare, and that made this song controversial. The actress also took a lot of flak for it, and for the "insufficient" length of the skirts she wore in another song in the same film. There was much slut-shaming. But Urmila and Karisma Kapoor, more than anyone else, changed the fashion grammar in Bollywood specifically when it came to changing the obsession with modesty. It all seems ironic today, when you look at the degree to which skin, sex and sexuality are front-face in Bollywood now. But for all the in-your-face sexuality, it is a rare film that manages to pull of something nearly as sensual as Urmila did in this song. I always thought Jackie looked very out of sorts in it though.

Jackie shroff doesnt have martial arts skills of his son but he is far better actor with great screen presence than his son

Farhad

This was when RGV was just putting out so many great movies of varied genres ...it was alm amazing to think..how one man can do movies of such varied styles....and that was until 2008...and then Shit hit the fan...how he just wierd...and makes softporn almost...

Naveen

This movie is really nice. All the songs in this movie are great and full of artistry. This movie was a landmark film for so many reasons. Rehman's music is amazing and Aamir Khan is simply superb.

Praveen Chhajer

Back in the day when RGV was a sane guy 😂 btw, check out the song “ Rangeela re” from the same movie . Singer is Asha Bhonsle (sister of Lata Mangeshkar) and she kills it.

Abhijith Chennat

Wholeheartedly agree w u , DDLJ was/is so overrated .... with overacting from SRK, over-the-top drama, mediocre script... 🙄🤷🏼‍♀️ The only thing that is good about the movie - the songs. Rangeela was so deserving in so many categories including music that DDLJ won 😒

Mamata Tillu

Abhishek Bachan is not just a decent actor. He is good but gets no importance cause of Big B. Lol also watch this movie. And also Kaun.

Oindrila Ghosh

Watch parinda of Jackie shroff

Avinash Gurung

That's what I meant to say. I know it was a hit but if DDLJ hadn't come out the same year it eould have caused a huge explosion. But everyone kept talking about DDLJ that year. Even at the filmfare I was heartbroken when all the music awards went to DDLJ. And even SRK's award for best actor was only due to the DDLJ mania, coz Aamir deserved it 100 times more that year.

Khurram Ali

The movie was a big hit but obviously not as big a hit as DDLJ.

jayesh poojary

Please watch the recent RGV interview with Anupama Chopra on film companion and then watch this movie.

Nas 45

Bang on about the awakening part! :-).. Also a landmark soundtrack with ARR entry to bollywood.

Razor Rasu

It's my all time favorite movie of Amir.. spl cos of the music.. its not an artsy art movie.. just good pop corn flick..

Sonia Vakil

When Korbin said this must have been the sexual awakening for so many people I just facepalmed and raised my hand ..🤣🤣. The film was quite an entertaining watch but did not make a bang at the box office coz it came out a few weeks after DDLJ, and DDLJ euphoria lasted for almost a year.

Khurram Ali

Brought back so many memories. Gorgeous song

Aparna Navalgund

Died laughing at what Korbin said after the song was over ...🤣

Avanti Sengupta

You have reacted to another song from this film, which had the same actress and Amir khan where he Is in a dream sequence. That song had amazing visuals and choreography too. All songs are amazing in this. A classic by ar rahman and ram gopal verma

Aparna Navalgund

The music from this movie rocks. And Urmila Martondkar in this movie is sensuality personified. Teenage me definitely loved that part.😂

Jit

The best work of Ramu as a Director, Top 5 albums of ARR, Excellent movie to watch
