Thank you Satish :) I just really want them to explore some great indian female actors, especially Smita Patil and Shabana Azmi, and also get introduced to the parallel wave Hindi cinema of the 80s, which gave us some of the finest films in my opinion.

All great recommendations.

M so glad you want to explore more powehouse female actors! Of the current generation, I would say Tabu, Shefali Shah (from the short film Juice), Vidya Balan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Sandhya Mridul, Tanisshtha Chatterjee are my favorites. But, Smita Patil is my absolute favorite actress of all time. Her movie Mirch Masala is an absolute classic. Another one to explore would be Shabana Azmi, who always chooses unique movies and roles. A few others would be Ratna Pathak Shah, Supriya Pathak (Deepika's mother in Ram-Leela), Neena Gupta and Deepti Naval. They're absolutely fantastic actresses, and I am yet to see a disappointing performance from any of them. However, these are just from the Hindi film industry.

You people should watch Anurag Kashyap’s most bizarre and one of Hindi cinema’s most bizarre yet cool movies - NO SMOKING.

Priyamvada Charde

For female actress, Urmila is one great actress who could be explored by you. She is highly underrated. She got love from audience but she deserved more awards than she received for her brilliant work over the years... Watch ‘Pinjar’ for her and Manoj Bajpayee. Painful yet beautiful story set in the backdrop of partition.

Manavi Sharma

Good review. Nice example of Pulp Fiction by Korbin. Thats how it is with this movie’s fan base because of the time it was made in. At the time, Bollywood was only producing stale love stories and stupid, over the top comedies (barring very few exceptions). Satya and Black Friday were ground breaking for their story, direction and use of non “star” actors.

Budget of this film is ₹6.5 Crore ($881,000), which is less for an Indian movie at that time, maybe because of fresh director. If you compare with high budget director S.Shankar movie Boys, which released in 2003, had a budget of ₹17 Crore ($2,300,000).
