This is super difficult! Most classic rock songs will cover a handful of scales. Each raga here is technically a scale (with more limitations on which notes can be used in ascending and which ones in descending) + specifics note phrases that needs to be emphasized + the ornamentation. If he did this in one take that is just brilliant (for a few ragas he used some popular compositions, which I think is easier, but most of it is riffing through the notes to give a flavor of the raga).. Really talented singer - I belive he is based in New Jersey.

Ragas are not exactly songs. They are identified by particular notes that you are allowed to use in each raga and the way they are used. Each raga will have a couple of signature 'phrases' that gives the essence of the raga and the emotion it is trying to convey. If someone asks you to sing a raga, you could sing the scale of notes in ascending and descending order while stressing on the important notes in that raga. For example, two ragas can have the exact same set of notes, but the importance given to each note may differ. The singer will linger longer on these important notes, and go around singing different notes, but then come back and land on them again. These notes are called the 'vaadi and samvaadi swaras'. These notes coupled with the key phrases of a raga, give it it's identity.
