Mouna Ragam is a beautiful film but the relationship in an Indian family is different from west and they might find certain things alien.

It was a groundbreaking story as it broke away from the typical patriarchal characterization of marriage where the husband is dominant and the wife is subservient and whose only role is to obey. More importantly, it explores the progressive topics of consent and agency of woman in marriage, things which were not established in Indian society at large at the time this movie came out (1980s).
