Introvert and extrovert don't have anything to do with shyness/social anxiety. You can be an introvert without being uncomfortable/awkward around people or an extrovert with anxiety issues and vice versa. It just means being around people will drain you after a while and as an introvert, you would need longer/more frequent alone time to recharge your batteries. While extrovert can enjoy some amount of alone time but they'll get drained soon if and need people to recharge their batteries - so have a preference for frequent and longer socialization. As humans, we need both - alone time and meaningful human connections but it's about the cognitive preference of one over another.
