My next movie review!

Hey all, just wanted to give you a quick update about what's next for the channel: it'll be a three part review of the film Gettysburg, and I'm planning to release the videos on July 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, the anniversary of the battle.

The review will be less of a "takedown" and more of a breakdown of the movie's strengths and weaknesses. The first video will be an artistic review, giving background about the production and my opinions about its technical execution. The second will be more educational, focusing on how Gettysburg represents (and occasionally misrepresents) history. And the third will basically be my pitch of what sort of a Gettysburg movie I'd like to see.

Since this has been my most-requested video for a while now, I'm just curious... what sort of Gettysburg-related topics would you like me to cover in this series? What are your problems with the movie, if any? I'm still in the writing and research phase, so there's a good chance I'll incorporate your suggestions!

Another human interest story from Gettysburg is that of Lewis Payne (Powell), 2nd Florida Infantry, Captured either on Day 2 (Lang's Brigade supported Wilcox) or during Pickets Charge. Later released and joined Mosby. Was one of the Lincoln assassins and hung with the group.

Not being a heavy civil war buff, I thought I would check out the source. A trilogy that will be following 4 characters through the war. Lee, Jackson, Joshua Chamberlain and Winfield Scott Hancock. (Well, only 3 survive volume one.) Action is quick and somewhat shallow and the language seems a bit modern to me. Why these four? Yeah, the Confederates were famous--Not so much the Union guys. Too bad he films could not start with the first book. So far, the first part lacks the heavy lost cause feel. Also, having older actors play younger characters is weird. Seems like one problem with Gettysburg is that it was presented as a full history of the battle; the novel is a look at events from different viewpoints--Not the whole story. Looking forward to hearing what you would do with the budget!
