New Q&A! Ask me anything / My very own "Project 2025"

Hey friends! I'm thinking of making a new Q&A video in December, so ask me anything about any topic! The only twist is I'd like to do the thing I did in "The Witchfinder General Gives Spiritual Advice" and have the questions be in video format. So if you've got a question and are comfortable appearing on camera, please film yourself and drop the link to your video in the comments below. Please keep the videos short and to the point – under 20 seconds is ideal.

It's been an absolutely crazy summer and autumn, what with me trying (and failing, lol) to maintain a biweekly upload schedule, churning out multiple feature-length videos, and on top of it all volunteering for more than two months on a political campaign – but for the most part, I'm super happy with the channel's output during that time. We went on a journey through the mushroom realm with Terence McKenna, swept through the biological cathedral of the Eastern Woodlands, felt the righteous rage of Benjamin Lay, and displayed an embarrassing lack of marksmanship with a Spencer carbine and a Henry repeater. Good shit!

Now that The Birth of an American Town is finally over (and the final episode posted for early access to the $10 and up people) I'm going to take a little bit of a break and melt into my couch watching old movies and writing Episode 4 of Frozen '50s Man, which I'm hoping we can film in January. Otherwise, I'm preparing to take Atun-Shei Films in a new direction next year, making several videos on a crucial period in American history I've never covered before... the American Revolution!

It's the 250th anniversary next year, and let's face it – there is going to be a torrent of nationalistic mythologized sic semper tyrannis slop about the Revolution flooding YouTube and the internet at large. As is, this war is not very well covered on YouTube... it's mostly pop history battle maps and cartoons made for kiddos. While there's absolutely nothing wrong with basic introductions to a topic, we refined powdered-wig Madeira-quaffing gentlemen (and ladies and everything in between) here at Atun-Shei prefer something we can really sink our teeth into.

So 2025 will be the year of Revolution! Here's some video ideas I've been outlining and discussing with others:

• The REAL Cause of the Revolutionary War?!?!?! (feat. Brandon F) - My good friend Brandon Fisichella and I plan on comparing and contrasting the Marxist "bourgeois revolution" and the nationalistic "America fuck yeah" narratives of the war. Spoiler alert, broadly I agree with the facts of the Marxist interpretation but dislike the inherent "America bad" sentiment that always seems to underlie it. Liberalism was good actually, and you know what, Marx would have agreed with me.

• Guns That Killed Redcoats (feat. InRangeTV) - Karl and I's video on Union guns was such a hit that we're going to break out the flintlocks. He's got a Charleville and a few other pieces, and I was thinking of picking up a cheap Northwest fur trade gun – but really only because New England fowlers are near impossible to come by these days.

• An Enlightenment era Witchfinder General type series - Thomas Jefferson reacts to Christian nationalists? Vaush but hosted by Voltaire? Lots of possibilities, and I've already got an accent.

• Something about Benedict Arnold's expedition to Quebec (ideally shot on location) - When I was hiking in the 100 Mile Wilderness on the Appalachian Trail in 2017 I kept seeing signs to the effect of "Arnold's expedition marched through here" and later read some books on it – it's an incredible story and that part of western Maine is truly beautiful and to this day terrifyingly remote. I've been meaning to get back up there for years and this might be a perfect excuse.

Are you excited? No? Oh, okay... Well I am.

I also intend to make the other video ideas I've mentioned in previous posts such as an Abolitionists episode on Henry David Thoreau and more stuff on environmental history.
