Interesting informative video. Always glad to learn more. Being from Poland, the WWII in school programmes is discussed from Polish point of view but put in broader international, global context. Without that context, Poland not being major global player, it wouldn't be possibile to explain our pre and post-war history. Major military operations in Asia are usually mentioned. I guess India might be mentioned rather only in the context of WWII outcomes, fall of British Empire and its gaining independence. And I have never heard about Bengal famine. But until 90s I was not even aware of Great Famine in neighbouring Soviet Ukraine (1932-1933, at least 4 million victims), due to communist propaganda. Actually because of earlier communist propaganda and historical lies history curriculums underwent major modifications in Poland after 1989. I don't know how many of you here can imagine that officially school taught propaganda and lies, while unofficially people learn history from their family, illegal publications or illegal radio stations. Popular cinema (The Forgotten Army) introduced me to the Indian National Army. I haven't seen the whole series (didn't like its style) but I read some information because it was so completely new to me.

There’s no movie I can think of that shows the magnanimity of the event (in this case - the Bengal Famine) the way, for instance, Sardar Udham showed for Jallianwala Bagh massacre or the way Schindler’s List depicted the Holocaust. But to get a sense of the far-reaching effects of the Bengal famine (hence the name ‘Distant Thunder’) and how it affected the lives of poor people, farmers, unrelated and unaware innocent civilians, you MUST watch Ray’s Ashani Sanket. Interestingly, it was also in your regional polls this month. Hope you get to this soon!
