I love everyting in this film. And I love your review.
Starting my Bollywood travel with the 90s and early 2000s (which I love), I am more and more interested in classics. I liked recently Deewaar, but Awaara is a masterpiece. The evolution of this cinema, also with some regression, is fascinating.
My two personal comments for Awaara.
Music was so great. And Lata Mangeshkar in the opening credits of 1951 film...
This film in some aspects was for me the most western-looking Indian film I have seen. Costumes, hairstyles, some interiors in black and white gave me that impression. Some scenes could be easily cut out of some western film of that time, only language made difference.

I did a completely involuntary and loud "AHA!!!!" at the Citizen Kane comment and all around me think am crazy as I have my head phones on. I did not consider that statement until it was said and makes total sense to me.
