I don't know how much infidelity was discussed in Indian cinema. I saw two films. I absolutely dislike KANK for its soap-opera style. But I would recommend to watch Yash Chopra's Silsila (1981) with Big B, Jaya Bachchan, Rekha and Sanjeev Kumar. Good cinema about love, marriage and infidelity (spoilt ending imo).

Some are crappy ones like Judai and Sajan Chale Sasural in the 90s or a beautifully nuanced film like Arth. (am only citing hindi films for the moment). KANK was not at all ahead of its time, its the audience who had some crazy short term memory loss to believe it to be new at that time. In some cultures, until very recently, many men of wealth and standing openly had 2 or more than one wives and even the women accepted it and each other. This is not new at all. In fact, I have always been amused by you both being so scandalized by infidelity in previous reviews as it is a ground reality and much more so than concepts of super heros and super villains which are just in our imagination. I do like the look of this film and waiting to see Deepika and Siddhanth together
