Mohanlal’s filmography- 80’s and early 90’s- very simple and realistic family/drama/comedy with a “boy next door” image that made him a heartthrob in every Kerala household. Top movies from this era - Chithram, kireedam, thoovanathumbikal, bharatham, sadayam, manichithrathazhu, devasuram, yodha and so many more. Late 90’s and 2000’s - the transformation from an ordinary guy to an extra ordinary super-hero like mass hero (like this one). Many of the earlier experiments did work but then it started being very unrealistic and boring. The decade from 2000 to 2010 was very poor for him and in general for Malayalam industry. There were very few good movies in that period. A few watchable movies of his from these few years are - Thanmathra (only non-mass film that’s worth mentioning), aaram thampuran. After 2010, he had some rejuvenation with Drishyam 1 and 2, Lucifer, puli murugan (average film but made money).
