They: - can masterly complement the story or can spoil the narration, - can be the best part of the film or completely meaningless. - There are commercial and artistic choices in their use. - Backup singers are recognised and admired artists but actors "own" songs. - AR. Rahman's music is always an added value to a film. Use of songs is so unique and that's one of the reasons that keeps me in the exploring Indian cinema.

You guys definitely need to react to Divya Bharti (she was in the song at 1992, Saat Samundar). She is one of those haunting Bollywood stories. Hit popularity at a very young age (17) with her first film. Her career soared in 1992, she had a crazy number of releases and died in 1993. We saw her in so many movies then, it’s hard to wrap our heads around the fact that she was only acting for a little over two years. I often refer to Sushant as the Divya Bharti of the current generation. Her death caused the same kind of chaotic impact. Her death was amped up as a murder but after now decades of research, it’s fairly clear (from my observations) that she had mental health struggles and most likely committed suicide. But what a natural, cute, captivating actress. A lot of big films she was cast in went to other actresses later (Mohra to Raveena, Laadla to Sridevi and rumoredly she was in talks for DDLJ). Random blast from the past comment. 😂
