2022-06-27 20:41:33 +0000 UTCSuhaag is another fun but underated Rekha-Ambitabh film. My mom's loves her & her fav Rekha movie is Khoobsurat (rom-com with Hrithik's dad as the leading man). They have a super close friendship which is why she's also Hrithik's godmother. A very bold performance of hers is Khoon Bhari Maang (made by Rakesh Roshan). It can be over dramatic but its a 1988 film. Nonetheless, it was groundbreaking b/c Rekha was 34 and still acting when most of her contemporaries were getting married and permanatly giving up acting. Not just b/c they didn't want to work, but filmakers then didn't think movies were profitable when casting "older" women in lead roles. During a struggle period in her life, her friend Rakesh Roshan came through for her -- not only did he cast her in the lead role but made her the only hero of the film. The Tribune wrote that it destroyed the myth that only men can be the heros of a story. In her personal life, she has lived through some tragedies but inspires many for always moving forward gracefully.

Nonetheless, the coverage of the entire trial & its impact on people has been fascinating. I wish the UK one had been public -- that ruling just didn't make sense. Last week I was leaving Toronto to return to the US, and right after getting through immigration, you enter the area where they sell the overpriced beauty products and chocolates & right as you enter was a large Dior poster with Johnny in it --which wasn't there a month ago. I thought that was very interesting.

Its the first time a middle age person did an item number like that (she was in her 50s). And Rekha kills it, she goes full blown Cher in it, so cabaret and over the top in the best way possible.
