Yes Divya me too.. I come from Kerala but grew up in neighborhoods where crying together was viewed as an emotional catharsis… a communal crying especially in funerals… as for Surya’s role I find needed to be written as a hero who fights for the oppressed with the hope that in the future he wouldn’t be needed at all.. 🖤

The director was predominately a writer and this was his debut not that it is an excuse but he had admitted in an interview that it was made melodramatic to reach the audience and pull the emotional chords as the story needed to reach as many as possible..also some of the crying and overdramatic scenes in the movie though looks unrealistic it is common in Tamil villages .. for that matter even in Chennai even among my family members in Chennai.. 😊 let it be someone is in hospital and u get a phone call or someone has been inquired by police at home.. whole street will know even before the police van turns the corner of the road..😥 i cud easily relate to the scene where she hollers in agony in the streets when her child is taken .. but i can see why some cud feel it as overdramatic and hyper emotional especially if you aren't privy to such outbursts in real life 😇 so i can see wher you both come from 💙💙 the only issue i had was this hero becoming superhero who saves the oppressed.. i felt that cud hv been more grounded, coz even though he was instrumental it was Sengenni' war for her husband..💙

Hi Nirmala, I second everything that Aleksandra has mentioned. As mentioned in my previous comment, I liked the subject matter and felt such stories need to be told but just didn’t like the way the film was executed and a lot of the acting choices that were made. It simply didn’t score a 9 for me. I am not an emotional movie viewer. I tend to look for acting style that’s mellow and subdued. This for me was trying to play a lot on an average viewer’s emotions that was at times too melodramatic for my taste. Don’t seem to remember much now as it’s been a long time since I watched it. But it was a decent one time watch for me with a solid subject matter that had a lot of scope for improvement in terms of acting, script, stylisation and believability. Hope I was able to answer your question :)

Aaah Gotcha… I was too immersed in the story and the emotionality it created, I particularly didn’t think anything was dragging.. I read it as an intentional move made by the director forcing us to sit with and make sense of all that occurred prior to the court scene… That’s why I was curious to hear about your thoughts

I didn't want to write a review😁 Rather my impression of the film that was for me somehow memorable and didn't draw attention here. My point here is that it's not the masterpiece that it was declared in social media. Imo not 9/10 film, probably about 6-7. I don't remember particulars, it was long time ago. I remember good beginning with the tribal part. Later the film was very dragging. I didn't particularly like the court part which was too one-dimensional - hero vs villains. And I didn't like some acting.

I am not sure what you mean by cinema quality, some examples would help me understand.. I didn’t pick up on any glaring quality issues..

I watched Jai Bhim on impulse, one of my first non-Hindi films. Probably the story that should have been told. I'm glad I watched it. I got shook by the story. But I was not impressed in terms of cinema quality. A lot to be wished for, it's not 9/10 film as in IMDb. But that's the film I'd still watch for the story.
There's much pain and brutality, but what particularly struck me was why some people were put in jail. That the system allowed it.
