Lata sort of copied some of the other sings in the 40s/50s, so I don't really like her very early stuff. She definitely put on a slightly nasal affect

I would love to request songs from the movie 'Lekin', Kiran Unni. I just found these high quality video/audio uploads of its songs on YouTube. But the songs need subs and my fear is sometimes when you request for subs, OSR just takes the first result that pops up while searching for the song, inspite of providing them the link to the best upload. That is real frustrating when giving a requestπ

I agree with you big time. Depended on the songs. Like you said, the songs that required more gravitas were best in her mature voice. The problem though was that such songs were rare in 80s and 90s commercial cinema and she sang a lot of lovey-dovey numbers that didn't really suit her older voice, although it did suit certain actresses like Madhuri and Kajol. Hence my earlier comment that there are only a handful of 80s/90s songs to react to. However, I have noticed that there can be quite a division when it comes to what era of her songs people enjoy-some like those from the 40s and 50s, others from 60s and 70s while others her older voice from the 80s and 90s. So while I guess a lot boils down to individual preference, it may also be due to which era one has grown up in. Personally, even though a 90s kid, I am a fan of her voice from the 60s and 70sπ

It depends on the song. A song like Yara sili sili couldve never been sung with the same depth of emotion has she been younger. She needed that dark piercing tone and life experience.. but in the 90s , she would've never been able to sing lag ja gale

Gosh I prefer Lataji voice from the 80s, 90s and even 2000s. I love the thicker more mature texture and the more base notes she was singing by then. One of her best all time albums, in my opinion is Lekin.

The way lata sang this song is how she sang most of her songs in her prime. In the 50s - 70s. You guys have unfortunately been listening to more of her music in the 80s/90s where her voice took on a much thicker texture. She was much older then. But the lighter voice she had when she was in her 20s and 30s is my favorite.
