Explanation on The beanie look that you are talking about : So it is a type of cap that people here wear in the winters . It is commonly called as a “monkey cap” .. just because people look like monkeys after wearing those ..Its significance is that in winters it protects the whole face , neck and head area Regarding why it is prevalent in the comedy movies is that .. usually these are worn by older people as for the newer generation it’s not too cool to wear it . So to depict an uncool or old school or someone you can make fun of type of person , this look is used (most commonly in comedy movies you’ll see either watchmen or old people wearing those , as they feel the freezing cold)

I went to a convent school and we had a huge pine tree in our campus.. we had a Cathedral and the Convent was adjoined the school.. the entire month of December, the Christmas carols played in school.. thats how I knew about Silent night, Rudolf the rednose reindeer, Joy to the world.. we did the play every year of Jesus being born .. good memories !
