Kerala is a pretty small state compared to others in India. But shaped like a sliver in the South West, its very very diverse in topography, flora, fauna. Many many many amazing hiking possibilities in all of India and Kerala. But its also not as user friendly as in the US. You take a bunch of risks and amenities are not uniform everywhere but the dangers are exhilarating. My friends and I have hiked many trails one time in the mudhualai hills we were hopelesly lost for about 18 hours and heard mating bison, tigers and all. Seeing an asphalt road of a tea plantation was like reaching heaven that night and also made me profess undying love for my office cubicle and computer, if we got out of there in one piece! In hindsight it's quite an experience.
