But I agree, the tonal switch from quirky to “wanna-be” serious was jarring. Tonal switch in movies in general is one of my pet peeves. Sons of Anarchy did the same thing in its last season. It was dark throughout the series but still maintained the element of hope…until the final season when it just went dark and Shakespearean tragic. Clearly, I’m still not over this. Lol.
