Madhavan started very well about situational awareness.. and then derailed a little.. chain of thoughts not well aligned.. There is one major factor- destiny and luck.. you can be at the right place at the right time, tick all boxes .. but still somebody else will get it..

So did his friends get those jobs because of his etiquette lessons or because he called the Tata-Kirloskar people and asked them to bring Marathi people to the interview panel? if its the former, then are hiring managers only looking at outward appearances when they hire? if its the latter then the etiquette did not matter and having someone in the interview who understood their language and their expertise was what helped them. Am with Korbin on the elitist view of not caring if someone knows a particular language or which fork to use at the dinner table or what clothes you wear to any occasion. I am a hiring manager and I dont even care what school candidates went to (and I need highly qualified people), I rather focus on how they did on tests for the job, how they perform in the interview(s), their experience since school and assess how they will learn on the job.
