The last point …. 25+ years and I still get laughed at by my colleagues when I use words like “overtake” (when passing a car), “Dickey” (for car trunk) 😅

13 years of staying in the US, Extremely few incidents where I was asked any stereotypical questions and I have been in people facing jobs.
People are concious here to be honest. They would want to guess your country of Origin by how I look and most of the times they are correct.
Few questions they would ask-
1) where can i get good Indian food In LA? - well barely any place to be honest.
The place Korbin loves has great Indian sweets, but the Naans suck. The curries are too overcooked ..
2) which part of India are you from? This usually comes from person who has visited India.
3) people of South American origin are astonished by the fact that our English is so good.
4) most people are very accomodating if someone’s first language is not English. No judgements or very less. Especially in Proffessional and trade environment. Asians have a hard time conversing here and I have seen people being patient.
5) nobody really knows what is Indian food except for garlic Naan, chicken tikka masala, and mango lassi.. :D
The hardest to accept as an Indian over the time is the name butchering . But I understand the other side.
Because Indians i feel are so English conscious, we really learn it and put extra effort to be accomodated .
I had a hard time in LA intially where all street names are mostly in Spanish., San Fernando, El Segundo, Los Arboles, Caheunga, Tujunga.. :D
Americans are also fixated on using the correct terms for objects/things that we Indians are soo used to use interchangeably.. they are so thrown off by what we say, its really funny..
words we Indians use on a regular basis-
Dustbin, glass, napkin, towel etc ..
Wow .. i could go on and on talking about this different experience..
