I know you found the concept weird, but once you watch the movie and realize how the Gandhi connection comes in, you will NOT be disappointed. Sanju is also a GREAT movie and actually talks about Munna Bhai MBBS and the impact it had on sanjay dutt.

Loved also Circuit and Boman Irani. Looking for the sequel. Curious how you'll see it. For me it was less universal than this one and less funny, but also less dated and more mature. I watched this film a year ago, intrigued by your hesitation (not) to wach it😉 And since that moment I've been recommending it. It introduced me to Rajkumar Hirani. Must say I love his pattern of filmmaking. This flow of story, catching emotions and combinig content and fun. The only issue I have are some background music sounds and maybe some jokes 😉 Haven't seen only Sanju but I could watch it with you for Ranbir's performance and somehow different Hirani (I assume). High expectations for Dunki

One of the biggest things you missed and cannot help it, is the tapori language of Mumbai that Munna and Circuit. The phrases they use and the wit that was built into their dialogues cannot be translated in the sub titles. A few fun facts 1. Sanjay Dutt was not the first choice for this role. He met Raju and Vinod Chopra to play the role played by Jimmy Shergill (the guy who died). It was at a rather difficult time in career and personal life. But they changed their mind and asked him to play the lead and this changed Sanjay's life again and made him a super star 2. You should find a carrom board and play the game. Its a quintessential Indian game and all of us have played it as kids and way into adulthood and we play it when we get together even now. You can find it in Indian stores in LA, am sure.

Actually Sanjay Dutt looks more like her. 2) The actress who played Munna Bhai’s mom here is Rohini Hattangadi. That scene where he hugs his dad is iconic. Because he wasnt in good terms with his dad Mr Sunil Dutt. Sanjay Dutt feels so happy n proud when he actually hug his dad there. Raju Hirani didnt cut that scene but rather let them hug for longer time. Everyone in the set was silent and enjoying the scene. Respect. Next watch along is definitely the sequence lage raho munnabhai film . And Vaastav movie.

It was fun though to see how many things he re-used in 3 Idiots - Boman Irani plays the dean of the college which is named 'Imperial College Of...' in both movies, how Boman tries to get the hero rusticated by threatening people to give up his name, ragging in college with people in their underwear... 3 Idiots is his most rewatchable movie for me followed by PK which I find superb in the 1st half but a bit overdone in the 2nd half.

Once I also did a marathon kind of Raju Hirani movies and there is definitely a formula he sticks to . Especially the endings.. teary faces of every character, monologues by the main characters, high background music.. Radio/ media has been repetitively used in his movies- PK, Lage Raho, Sanju Though Munna and Circuit are iconic characters.. some dialogs of circuit are too good

Rewatching it now, I only liked some sweet moments and the scenes between Munna/Circuit. However, I didn't find the gags funny and could not connect to most of the emotional scenes either though Sanjay Dutt was doing a great job since they keep cutting the camera to show reactions of the other actors in the scene. I couldn't even watch the entire movie at a stretch and the average songs don't help either. There goes one of my favourite childhood movies though Munna/Circuit will forever remain an iconic duo 🙁

It simply can’t be translated to English properly without losing the flavor, context, and intention. Tapori language is basically a colloquial form of slang Hindi spoken in the streets of Mumbai. Found this blog.. You cannot find the Tapori language anywhere else in India or for that matter in textbooks. The reason is because it is a mixture of words and phrases from different languages. Tapori originated, from the Marathi language and is a mixture of Marathi, Gujarati and of course Hindi. It means ‘blossomed’ or ‘fully fertile’ in the Marathi language. However, it means ‘hoodlum’ , and ‘good for nothing’ when in use in Mumbai. It is generally not looked upon favorably by the upper classes of Mumbai society The underlying connotations associated with Tapori, is that those who speak it are cool and well versed with the ways of the street. A distinct culture accompanies this language in the form of Tapori style. Tapori in essence is street talk. It has its dark side as the rough elements of the city speak it. Tapori has many words that are considered slang and not decent. Thugs and street gangs as well as little kids that one sees panhandling at the station or at the street corners speak Tapori. Nowadays, Bollywood filmmakers cast their protagonists as Taporis. This shift, in casting heroes as Taporis instead of upright, well-mannered, and well-spoken gentleman, like those of past films, reveal a shift in the culture of Mumbai. It looks like it is more accepting of street talk and street style now. We remember Sanjay Dutt, the famous Bollywood actor, for his famous Tapori character Munnabhai in the movie, Munnabhai MBBS.

I actually forgot about the jaadu ki jhappi, my nephew's were little when this released and I would chase them for huggies. Brings back some good memories. Really glad you guys enjoyed it. For me this and the sequel are my favourite Sanjay and Rajkumar Hirani films. I've always had a preference for more light hearted fun films. Like you both I'm excited to see Dunki, I hope we see more of SRK the actor rather than the star catering to the masses.

Don’t know if you realized, but this was the last time Sunil Dutt and Sanjay Dutt worked together (father and son). Their off screen relationship…. Sunil supported Sanjay through a lot. That final scene with them hugging always felt very personal. 🤧🤧

Sanju is not entirely different to his filmography, it does have his touch, but it’s definitely the most serious and dark one. It’s a controversial film as people felt it excused a lot of Sanjay Dutts actions, but just as a stand-alone film, I think it’s brilliant and Ranbirs performance is spot on. Also a fun trivia: SRK was cast for this film and they even started pre-production with him. He unfortunately had a back injury and had to leave the film, and Dutt walked in. During pre-production, SRK made many inputs for the screenplay, which is why in the credits, you’ll see “Thank you Shahrukh for writing inputs”.

His name is included in the credits for 'his inputs on the script'. He once said, "I think that every actor is destined to do certain films. I feel I couldn’t have done it as well as Sanjay Dutt did."

I died laughing while watching this film, but watching it with subtitles... the experience can never be the same sadly
