Totally agree. the kid in Taare Zameen Par (will not call it by the English version) was not on the autism spectrum. he was dyslexic.

2023-03-31 22:32:56 +0000 UTCIn Taare Zameen Par or Like Stars on earth the child protagonist is dyslexic that is why he is unable to read and write when he's taught using traditional methods. Also as Korbin probably already knows the level can be mild medium or severe and I think in this film the protagonist has a severe form of dyslexia. Aamir Khan's character explains that while showing his parents the child's written work and how the child protagonist was writing alphabets or words upside down or back to front or was not being able to read and understand questions or instructions. He also has dyspraxia which is a motor skills disorder quite often present with dyslexia. Some symptoms of dyspraxia can be confused with autism. His resultant social and emotional problems then arise from being perceived and treated like a naughty/lazy/clumsy (on purpose) child persistently- both by the society including his school and his parents. As this happened from early childhood the emotional trauma then caused his behavioural challenges which were his coping techniques. And in all the ignorance he is surrounded by his talent as an artist/creative person didn't stand a chance or was never nurtured or given a chance to bloom. He is not an autistic child which also as a condition was not well understood in India till recently by the common man. You both have mentioned this a few times before too so thought I'd put this here as its one of my favourite films ever and I have children with autism and dyslexia + dyspraxia within my family and friends,
