I totally agree to what he said at least for bollywood movies. There were very few bollywood filmmakers around that time who were making films outside of the set pattern. Lot of filmmakers had a formula for success and they used to stick to that and even if they would attempt something unique, they had to bollywoodize it to cater to the masses. But obviously things have changed drastically in bollywood and we see more openness in the filmmakers as well as the audience now.
