U guys should really watch some Amol Palekar movies. He wasn't a commercially successful actor. Rather he made movies that were more in touch with reality; he usually portrayed the common man, with a regular job and regular problems. No over-the-top storylines, and no superficial action. Just feel-good movies. I recommend u guys start off with Golmaal (1979) and Chhoti si Baat. U won't regret it

Also not all artists from that era felt that way. Even then some artists worked across regional languages.
