I cannot explain it as well as Rick but I can tell if its an ARR or Ilaya Raja composition most times, even if I have never heard the piece before. ARR from the way he arranges the percussion and the way he ends a piece. Raja sir is all violins and the piano. They do have signature styles. Interestingly, ARR - I love how he ends every piece of music and its very different from say a RD Burman who focused the intro portion. Often times, the intro piece will have nothing to do with the actual song, but is beautiful to the listener all the same.
