Nobody is that ignorant, not even in 1968. It is active pandering to audience (north Indian) prejudices and cultural one-upmanship.

2023-06-19 04:34:32 +0000 UTCSRK... bless him! does exhibit prejudices influenced by the stereotypes he was exposed to as a Delhi boy, despite his own South Indian heritage. KJo, whom I adore, flaws and all, also said in an interview that he's scared his children would start speaking Malayalam as their nannies are from Kerala. It would be good to see more culturally sophisticated representations in Hindi cinema. Probably will have to wait for gen Z to take over !
