They were killed most likely by militants who did not like the controversial lyrics about drinking, drugs and sex. Imtiaz Ali is making a biopic about them the teaser just dropped a couple weeks ago. Diljit will play chamkila. Chamkila was huge in the 80’s

2023-06-20 22:05:39 +0000 UTCJust remembered whilst watching the song, this was a performance both did in a Punjabi film called patola. At 4.35 of the video is the male actor in the film Veerendra. He was also shot dead in 1988, the year this film released, why people do such awful things is beyond me. If you don't like something just don't watch or listen, don't kill people. I remember hearing all about this growing up as my dad was a big fan of them all.
