Somehow could never connect with Vikram especially Kamal doing fist fights (the gym fight threw me out of the movie). This movie is a strange concoction of mass (intro scenes and fights of Vijay) and surprising groundedness mixed randomly.

Selvam (Kamal's character name in Nammavar) and that VC Selvam's death affected JD a lot and made him turn to alcohol". Lokesh loves creating universe from old classic films of Kamal (who is his idol) and it adds to the excitement for the fans too, to see connectivities like this.

If Kaithi and Vikram (and most likely Leo) are in the LCU or the crime universe, then Master and Maanagaram (his first and IMO his best) would be his normal universe. LCU follows the underworld, cops, double agents, hitmen while Maanagaram and Master follow quirky normal people that are put in extraordinary situations. Though I love his LCU stuff, I like his writing in non-LCU movies more because they are more character-driven. You should definitely watch his debut movie Maanagaram for its web-like screenplay around 4 parallel stories. But he also likes to write and stylishly shoot action, supported by a top tier crew of technicians that constantly pushes boundaries, This makes his LCU movies a great watching experience, especially for action lovers. The reason for Leo's hype is because it promises to be a mix of both style and writing - not just an action bonanza connected with LCU, but Lokesh also mentioned he has experimented with thalapathy's character in the movie. One waits to see what he has cooked after Master's JD.

Clearly, she didn't bother them as they were so involved in the plot. Tastes differ and people should just stop complaining if a movie is not winning the poll. Clearly, majority is not voting for your movie 🤷🏻♀️.

Had you guys watched Vijay's earlier 2004 movie "Ghilli" (his filmography's most memorable film), you would've got the Kabaddi reference in that Kabbadi scene. There was a song in Ghilli called "Kabaddi Kabaddi" composed by Vidyasagar (music director of that movie). It was a mega hit theme song of that film! Anirudh basically got the rights to remix that song and he retained most of the original song and blended in "Vaathi Coming" from Master movie, so beautifully with that song. The theatres were a riot when that scene happened coz it was nostalgia mixed with mass. Hope you guys get to watch "Ghilli" (2004; Vijay, Trisha, Prakashraj). Trust me - you will need lots of air around you when you watch Ghilli! 😀

Seeing you two enjoy this movie so much I feel validated because I really love this movie a lot and I have seen other people criticise it which makes no sense to me but to each their own I guess 😂 I’m going to rewatch this watch long again on the weekend. VS as the villain elevated the movie so much for me because he’s just so good. I really like him as an actor. And my man Vijay, the master, well, what can I say other than I LOVE THIS MAN. He’s very talented and lately he chooses scripts with a meaningful message and that’s why the people love him and the government isn’t very fond of him. Thank you both.💙💙 Korbin safe travel and enjoy the trip.

And don't worry even though everybody loved this movie, they probably still will put this movie behind both Vikram and Kaithi. That just tells you what a great film director Lokesh is 💥 For your next Thalapathy Vijay movie, I would recommend you to watch the movie "Theri" which is directed by the same director of Jawan, Atlee!! There will be a lot of MASS moments, which are done really well!! 😍😍

Abt the whole discussion of which parts are Lokesh and which parts are Vijay… a lot of the Superstar type nuances and actions are a pre-requisite to include in a Vijay movie… and a certain character arc… (the empathetic…fighting for justice type)… this i believe is what Lokesh had to compromise on (vs having a more grounded character) Leo should be a more interesting take… we would love to see more gray shades of Vijay instead of the usual black and white… keep em coming Korbin! I thoroughly enjoyed it!
